Spotlight: Forest City Film Festival 2024

ACTRA Toronto members are in the spotlight at the 2024 Forest City Film Festival (FCFF) in London, Ontario!

From October 19 to 27, 2024, FCFF will showcase four ACTRA Toronto feature films and nine short films across various genres.

Congratulations to ACTRA Toronto member Victor Garber who will be receiving the FCFF’s inaugural Lifetime Achievement in Entertainment Award, celebrating his exceptional career and deep-rooted connection to his hometown of London, Ontario.

Below you’ll find a round-up of ACTRA Toronto productions at this year’s festival and the talented casts of ACTRA Toronto Members who bring these stories to life.

JOHN KIM BELL: BORN TO INDSPIRE

The journey of John Kim Bell, who developed a passion for music early on and became the first Indigenous person in North America to conduct a classical orchestra on Broadway. Recognizing the need to celebrate exceptional Indigenous talent in Canada, he founded the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, now known as Indspire.

ALL THE LOST ONES

In a world of civil unrest, a group of survivors must journey to seek refuge after their hideout has been discovered by an anti-government militia in the pursuit of power.

Featuring: Vinessa Antoine, Matthew Finlan, Anthony Grant, Sheila McCarthy, Kim Roberts, Douglas Alexander Smith

DESYNC

A young Filipina filmmaker attempts to overwrite a painful memory of her mother with a perfect narrative.

GATEKEEPERS

After signing up for a literal elevator pitch, a screenwriter is torn between the contradictory advice of three very different producers.

SHIVA

In hopes of connecting with her deceased husband, a recently widowed woman defies her Shiva, and discovers the truth behind this long-held mourning ritual.

FORTESCUE

As a playwright enlists her boyfriend and best friend to stage a play for their neighbours, she experiences a frightening psychosis that dramatizes her struggles with mental health and the pains of performing womanhood for men.

HOME FREE

A father’s dying wish to reunite his estranged daughters spins their family into a whirlwind of revealed secrets, conflict, and self discovery.

Featuring: Natalie Brown, Jill Frappier, Art Hindle, Michelle Nolden, Tara Spencer-Nairn

BREATHE

A defecting soldier is faced with caring for an orphan she encounters as they try to escape a dictatorship.

THEREBY HANGS A TALE

A young woman interviews her enigmatic grandmother in a surreal and poetic exploration of memory, family and trauma, set in either present day… or 1989.

JUST A FRIEND

Lynne Yu and her pregnant fiancé visit Lynne’s mother in a care facility. While reflecting on childhood memories, Lynne gathers the courage to come out and finally seek her mother’s acceptance.

A woman awakes on her wedding day with no memory of who she’s meant to be marrying, and an eerie sense that something is very, very wrong.

A THOUSAND CUTS

Roberta and Frasier co-host a live TV special with the goal of solving the notorious murder of Bernard Balance and the disappearance of his son Noah 30 years prior. However, both on and off camera, they delve deeper into the mystery of what happened that fateful night and begin to discover parallels between them and the Bernards, leading to a series of twists that changes everything.

THE TIME IS RIGHT

Contestants on a game show have the opportunity to travel in the past to prevent the death of a loved one, but only one winner actually gets to keep their changed lives.
