Spotlight: 2024 Reelworld Film Festival

ACTRA Toronto members are in the spotlight again at the 24th Annual Reelworld Film Festival+Summit!

From October 21 to November 3, 2024, Reelworld will showcase three ACTRA Toronto feature films and four short films across various genres.

Below you’ll find a round-up of ACTRA Toronto productions at this year’s festival and the talented casts of ACTRA Toronto Members who bring these stories to life.

STEALING VOWS

Inspired by real events, director Bobby Singh Brown’s matrimonial-themed heist film set in the summer of 1998 has all the notes of a classic caper, the stakes of a crime action drama, and the high energy of a South Asian wedding.

Featuring: Fuad Ahmed, Ali Hassan, Jeff Homer, Ron Kennell, Kenneth Mohabir, Anand Rajaram, Gia Sandhu, Gugun Deep Singh

Premieres Monday, October 21, 2024, at 7 p.m.

WINNER: Audience Choice Award; Outstanding Feature Film Producer (Bobby Singh Brown); Outstanding Feature Film Actress (Gia Sandhu).


THE OTHER STUFF

After a breakthrough moment during couples therapy, Winston, a 30-year-old black man, must confront his uncle about their abusive relationship.

After missing their bus on a cold winter night, a young girl confronts the limits of her mother’s love.

RÉPERCUTÉ

A man comes home to his lover on their anniversary expecting a romantic night of celebration only to find his lover has another plan in mind… revenge.

THORN

On the evening of an unseasonably warm Moon Festival, a Chinese immigrant mother goes about her ordinary routine of cooking dinner while controlling her daughter’s every move with a sharp tongue. But what is brewing beneath the surface? As night falls, a sinister figure emerges to threaten this small household.

MORNINGSIDE

Morningside is first and foremost a love letter to the Scarborough neighbourhood it’s named for, and is crafted with care and authenticity that celebrates the resilience of its community. The film offers a vivid portrait of the intertwining lives of a vibrant set of characters within a community centre, set against the backdrop of looming gentrification.

BOXCUTTER

Boxcutter is “an ode to a vibrant and underappreciated music scene.” It is also unabashedly Toronto in a way rarely seen on screen, reflecting the city we live and breathe in our neighbourhoods.

Premieres Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 8:30 p.m.
