Jully Black, Jennifer Podemski, Donald Sutherland and Tonya Williams are recognized for their outstanding achievements in and contribution to the performing arts.

Jully Black: 2023 Icon Award

ACTRA Toronto member and platinum-selling artist Jully Black was presented with the Icon Award at the 2023 Legacy Awards in recognition of her music, unforgettable live performances, stamina, lasting popularity, allyship and the impact she has made internationally. Photo credit: George Pimentel.

The Legacy Awards features performances, award presentations and tributes honouring established and emerging Black Canadian talent. The show is executive produced by ACTRA Toronto members Shamier Anderson and Stephan James, founders of The Black Academy. The 2023 Legacy Awards was hosted by ACTRA Toronto member Keshia Chanté and can be viewed on CBC Gem.

Jennifer Podemski: 2023 August Schellenberg Award

Jennifer Podemski was presented with the August Schellenberg Award at the 2023 imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival.

The August Schellenberg Award, or Augie, is an annual prize that recognizes gifted Indigenous actors from across Turtle Island based on the longevity and impact of their careers, as well as their professionalism and involvement in mentorship and community work. Photo credit: Lindsay Duncan.

Donald Sutherland: Canada Post

Donald Sutherland appears on a new stamp issued by Canada Post to commemorate “the career of one of Canada’s most respected and versatile actors.”

While Sutherland has appeared in nearly 200 feature films and television programs over seven decades, he has remained a proud Canadian and starred in many Canadian productions, including the TV movie Bethune (1977) and the feature film Bethune: The Making of a Hero (1990), playing legendary Canadian Dr. Norman Bethune in both. Tonya Williams: 2023 Visionary Award
