The 14th Canadian Screen Awards were hosted by ACTRA Toronto member Andrew Phung and presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television on May 31, 2026, to honour achievements in Canadian film, television and digital media production in 2025. The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian drama series set in the totalitarian theonomic state of “Gilead,” which has overthrown the U.S. government after a fertility crisis and environmental disasters. Fertile women, known as Handmaids, are sexually enslaved to give birth to children for the ruling elite. The story follows June, renamed “Offred,” one of these Handmaids, as she navigates the brutal regime, struggles to survive, and tries to reunite with her daughter and resist Gilead.

Along the way, she lies about her age, dodges small-town exes, and goes udder-to-udder with an 18-year-old nemesis. What could possibly go wrong? (Spoiler: everything.)
